is it just me or problem on web??

my laptop has been with the tech guys at pc world for much more time than it has been with me for the last 2 years. each time it is away for 2 weeks and being disabled am lost without it. this is reason why am not sure this time if it is a real problem with laptop which means more time without it or if just a glitch on the web in which case dont want to send it off unnecessarily. problem is when i type in a web page address the home page flashes up for seconds then disappears again this keeps happening on about 80% of pages i try and on the other 20% start using and after 10 minutes or so page not available flashes up half way through me reading the web page. is it a glitch or do i need to send it off again or is there something else i can do (well my son can do). i have asked pc world to replace as having so many problems but there attitude is as long as they are still able to repair it the will. what shall i do?

  • use a different browser, I suggest firefox.
check antivirus/malware software is up to date and active.
if pcworld are charging you, take it elsewhere if you have any other problems

do you mean change my starting page, i have google at moment (sorry bit thick when it comes to computers) and as for charging we have a £7.99 repair protection thingy per month and as far as i know only renewed antivirus recently so that should be ok (ps how do i change to firefox)

I would suggest tests on browser. It seems like you are using Internet Explorer. As suggested by tonyhague try firefox. Virus can cause your browser to redirect to any page on the internet while you work. This is mostly done by JavaScript so disable javascript under internet explorer options menu tab and see if that happens again.
Also try to boot in safe mode or disable all startup programs and services (if someone can do this for you its just 30 minutes job)
This can be done by using msconfig command if that helps. Type it in and press enter and select "selective startup" in which case just diable everything in startup and disable services which are in program files folder.
Try rebooting and then check if that happens again. If you can remember when this started then you might have downloaded something off the internet which appears to be nice and catchy on your PC but do all kind of bad stuff in background. Try to go back in time by using System Restore.

Any of these options can work but you can always scan using online softwares which is a risky thing unless you know what you are doing.

    Goodluck with your efforts.
    Hope this helps.

Everytime you take it to the tech guys do they totally wipe everything and reinstall windows ?

Or is it the same when you get it back?
