Barclaycard-7days to clear DD payment?

My Morgan Stanley card has just been transferred to Barclaycard. A DD payment was taken out of my bank account last Tuesday and it has not yet cleared on my BC account.

I see Barclaycard say it takes 7 days to clear but is this normal? Morgan Stanley used to clear within two days!

Check if Barclaycard didn't switch your MS account number to new one without informing you (thus your DD payments going to non existent account, you'd still get the usual "Thank you" email from the system. It's the new scoundrel tactic going around.

Sounds like teething problems to me.

    I don't think it's teething problems:confused:

I have just been into my Barclaycard account again and the DD payment that went out of my banK account last Tuesday is showing as a 'Pending Transaction'

This is what Barclaycard say about them

    'Pending Transactions

Pending Transactions (sometimes called Outstanding Authorisations) are taken into account when calculating the amount you have available to spend on your Barclaycard.
    What is a Pending Transaction?

A Pending Transaction is a temporary charge held against your account (your available credit) relating to:
A transaction (purchase) you’ve made using your Barclaycard, which has been authorised for payment, but has not yet reached your account, or
'Reserved' funds requested by certain retailers. (e.g. upon check-in, some hotels take your Barclaycard details for an 'authorisation transaction' that reserves enough funds to cover your bill), or
A payment you’ve made to your account which has not yet cleared.
What happens to a Pending Transaction?

A Pending Transaction will either turn into a finalised transaction (purchase) or will be removed automatically within 5 to 7 days.'

Direct Debits are not normally 'pending transactions.'

They are called for 3 working days before the 'due date,' and affect both the source and destination balances on the same day (3 days later.)

The only time you should see any indication of something looking like a 'pending transaction' for a DD is over the weekend for a DD due on the Monday.

Pending transactions are for things like Hotels that pre-book an amount to come off your card at the start of your stay, and sometimes unhelpfully forget to cancel it when actually debiting your card at the end of your stay with a second transaction. The first one is the pending one.

Edit: Just realised - what you've quoted appears to be from BarclayCard - I thought it was your current account DD you were having problems with? BarclayCard and Barclays are, for this discussion, separate entities - you cannot use the T&C's/site of one to assume behaviour on the other.

Thanks for your help but my bank is Smile and not Barclays.

If this is the way Barclaycard behave I will be cancelling the card. I have had more trouble with them in two weeks than I had with eight years with Morgan Stanley.

In that case, the paragraph you quoted is even less (indeed it is not) relevant.

That paragraph relates to payments made and charged to your BarclayCard (by businesses,) not payments from your bank account to pay your BarclayCard off.

Still sounds like teething problems to do with the move.

How was the DD collected? By which I mean, was it the same DD that used to pay off your Morgan Stanley card, or a new one set up specifically to pay BarclayCard? The former is likely to lead to delays until the latter is set up.
If this is the way Barclaycard behave I will be cancelling the card
Any particular reason (apart from inertia) you plan to stay with them anyway? Offers? Cashback?

This is what it shows on my Smile current account:
    08/10/2008 B/CARD CASHBACK

Barclaycard are showing the payment on my account but only showing it as PENDING. Surely after 6 days it should be cleared???

One because of the above and two because Egg can offer me twice as much cashback!

This is not a direct debit. This is cash back.

A cash back is money (in this case) from BarclayCard to your current account.
A direct debit in these circumstances is a payment going the other way to pay off your bill.

Could you provide more details of your complaint in your original post (Direct Debits going astray) rather than introducing other complaints?

Or was this the original complaint mis-described?
