reducing size of movie clip to email?

Can someone help me please?

I've taken a movie clip of my granddaughter on my Sony Cybershot camera which I want to email. It's 26.2MB and too big to send. How can I reduce it?

I'm running Vista.

Thanks in advance for any help:A

With any luck you should be able to just pop it into Windows Movie Maker (it should be in the Start Menu.. If not, hold the Windows key while you press the 'R' key, and type "moviemk" without quotes in the box that shows up and hit enter).

Once it's in Windows Movie Maker you will be able to hit the link on the left hand side to save the video, and you will be able to set a size in MB for it to compress to. For email I would recommend about 5 or 10MB tops.

I'm currently on my Linux machine at the moment, but if you need any more specific instructions, let me know and I'll hop onto Windows.

if its in AVI format - it can take up alot of space. like jaxdia says. import into Windows Movie Maker and save it as a WMV file which should be smaller in size.. you can always compress it before sending too (using something like 7zip)

Don't reduce it, just upload it to Rapidshare and send the link produced to the recipient. She can then click on the link to download and play it on her computer.
  • Use Hamachi, to directly link to your friend. It's a p2p private network and secure. You will be able to send large files. You will both need to install Hamachi. Get from HERE

    Ask if any problems.
Radipshare is not working here...slow not what you want..

Just ignore the suggestion by totalsolutions, some people just can't resist using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.....or maybe totalsolutions is posting from Vanuatu....where even there I'm sure Rapidshare works.

It's just completely pointless to download software that you don't understand, for no good reason.
  • What a waste a my time Donnie, first the site was down 10:30 today, then it has free reign to see my data files and uploads only a max of 200Mb. The files are available to anyone and then get deleted after 90 days, plus the downloadee must wait for 30secs to start downloading at a throttled bandwidth with all that advertising to purchase a premium account. Dont be a mug, if a sledgehammer is fast private and secure that will do for me and my clients. File transfers are up and down like a brides nightie.

The OP's file is 26.2MB and only needs her daughter to receive it. I think that her daughter will be able to download it within 90 days. Waiting 30 seconds to download it will not be a hardship too much for her to bear.
Whereas downloading and installing your suggestion and learning how to use it, may well take a fair bit more than thirty seconds.
File hosting websites, such as Rapidshare and FileFactory are an instant and user friendly solution.

I repeat that your solution is akin to using a sledgehammer in order to crack a nut.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Much appreciated:D

I actually used Movie Maker in the end, as it seemed the simplest way. The fact that the file was reduced was not a problem.

Don't be afraid to use the file hosting method. It's simpler than you might imagine and may be useful in the future.
