If the banks wont lend to each other, causing the 'crunch' to continue even thought the government is using us 'tax payers' cash to guarantee the loans, why dont the government just cut them out of the equation & directly lend our cash back to us?

Thats what the fed has done I think but our banks have no choice now but to lend as required. Only hsbc could continue to be fussy but they lose out on business then0
