Networking and Patch Panel questions....

dont use a hub - you will restrict bandwidth as they do not support full duplex communication - only one unit connected to it will be able to use the link at a time - If you use a switch it will share the connection between all shared devices.
The problem with wireless is - if you design your home network to run on wireless then great - but its a single point of failure. If your wireless router goes down - then you lose your network as you have no wired backup.
If you wire up the house like you originally planned - all rooms going into a patch panel - then you have a network that can cope with expansion in the future. so it can handle what you should be able to throw at it. Switches - Routers - Wireless access etc.
If I were renovating a house to sell - I would definately wire up the house to a patch panel - (as long as the patch panel was ina dry place - as someone stated above). If I was really going for it then I would use twin socket face plates in each room instead of single - just incase two laptops / or PC's wanted to use the network from the same place.
Whoever moved in would be able to run the network how they wanted with the wiring already in place.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0
