a bit more info would be nice, what's so and soi?
hope he really doesn't kill the kids, there'd be an awful mess.

boot the computer into safe mode, by following the instructions here
once it's started, shutdown/restart, hope it works this time.
if it fails, try system restore (from safe mode)

    Thanks Tony.
I will try this tomorrow up his house, bit vague because he is so angry that its hard to get sense out of him. Something to do with coming back from a diving trip in Thailand today and he cannot wait to get his pictures on line!!

Well Tony did not work for me.
Got it into safe mode, all that came up was a black screen with safe mode in each corner and O?S along the top and then the alert came up. Application failed to initialize 000005.

Beyond me now, going to give it a computer repair man.

    Thanks for your help.

Had new 160GB hard drive fitted. £140 fitted, data transfered so not too bad.
Repair man took some hardware out because he stated desk top, for what we use it for, its not needed! Now have 'found new hardware VGA card' comes up every time pc switched on.. Go through the install wizard and it tells me not installed. Go to device manager yellow triangle and black exclamation mark by VGA card.
Do I just uninstall vga card will this stop this coming up every time pc is switched on?
    Thakks.

  • I'd be a bit concerned that he's removed hardware which was already in the machine. What did he do with it? Sounds like you may have onboard graphics, has he removed a graphic card?

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Goto device manager, right click and try to UPDATE DRIVER via the internet
Sounds very dubious to me though.
Also, he now has any PASSWORDS that you had on your old drive!
