Electrical Work Quote

I have just bought a 10 year old house that has been left vacant and been stripped of some electrical fittings.
The is no electricity in the house (main fuse removed) and before it can be replaced I need to get a certificate that all has been fixed.
So I arranged a Periodic Inspection and estimate that need to be done before the certificate can be issued.
Was just wondering if you think that this is a fair price?

The price seems not excellent value- I would suggest you get other quotes.baldly going on...0 -
Jesus two very different quotes....just goes to show it pays to get a few quotes rather than go on the first one.
over 300 quid saved if you go with the bald oneIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
Now that you have your quotes put a figure you want to pay on www.myhammer.co.uk
It's free to join and use as a customer wanting jobs done. The tradesmen pay a small commission.
You may get qualified electrians giving you a chaeper quote.Always ask for ID and certificates0 -

Your quote is almost identical to my brothers who is an electrican but unfortunatly for me is now based in Sydney....Well apart from charging me £40 an hour  but to be fair thinks he can complete in under 8 hours.....Although after showing him the quote he was considering leaving the sun and working a two day week back here if that was the going rate:D
He knows that the have been a lot of rule changes on house works now and all his colleauges from his time working here that he could have had recommend have continuted to work on new building sites and don't have the right qualifications to do this work......unless you call 20 years plus experience no qualification but I an sure thats another subject.
But if anyone can tell me what sort of qulification and certs should I be on the outlook for?
I take it all the original fittings don't need the same certs?
How will the person doing the "dead check" (I think thats what the electricty board have asked for) know when this work has been done and therefore even be looking for said certificates?
Thanks for all your replies so far0 -

Does your brother charge more than £35 per hour?, if his quote is the same for less hours then he must:D
To be serious, I like to do the job right first time and if it takes a little longer that's OK. I would rather take slightly longer and leave a better job that isn't a boomerang)
Please note your original quote does not include a new 17h Edition consumer unit.
Hope all goes wellbaldly going on...0 -
Electrical companys will charge more as they need to turn over a profit,Baldy's quote is from a one man band,There is a difference,Sorry if i am wrong.
Also do we just buy all the materials, collect them,Guarantee them and then have no mark-up on them??OH THE JOYS OF BEING SELF-EMPLOYED!! Can Travel,Will Work For Free!0 -
Cannot see how you can give the price for materials when you don't know what type make model they are replacing ????? or if they have to match existing0

A rewire of a 3 bedroom house will only cost little more than a 2 bedroom house require in relation to materials. The extra time is a factor.
A reqire costs around £600-£800 for a standard house (2-3 bedroom) for materials. This is £250 more than 5 years ago as costs have shot up.baldly going on...0 -

I have priced for decent acessories (GET) which will match older MK style acessories. If the sockets and switches present are of an inferior quality the price won't be any higher (as cheap crappy sockets are usually cheaper)
I use what I know and know what I use (materials wise) and have priced accordingly. Most of the time clients don't want an exact match for what was there- I had a client with a Proteus consumer unit nearly go on fire last week , poor workmanship and cheap tat. Funnily enough he didn't want another Proteus Unit :rotfl:
I would suggest you stick to your own field and don't try and lecture me on mine :rolleyes:baldly going on...0
