Travelling to Thailand next year - safe?!

We are due to travel to Thailand for our Honeymoon on 26th April 2009 for 10 days, staying in the southern region of Krabi.

I've heard of potical and social instability in thailand at the moment - is there a helpline I can phone to discuss if it is safe to go there?!

  • Don't know of a telephone number but check out the Foreign Office they usually advise on the places/countries to stay clear of. Krabi and Thailand as a whole are beautiful and I am so jealous :o

If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it

If you are afraid to visit Thailand, then you should be petrified at the thought of marriage!

I'd use the Foreign Office travel advice page as a guide.

You're travelling in 6 months time! Don't you think it might be best to sit tight and wait - let's face it a lot can happen in 6 months - these things can end just as quickly as they started.

We just came back on Thursday and I can honestly say we didn't see any problems at all. We were in Bangkok and Hua Hin then back to Bangkok, we only knew there was a car bomb on Tuesday because a family member texted to see if we were OK. There has been a protest going on in the goverment house for a few weeks and we just avoided that area.

As someone said it's 6 months away we only booked 5 weeks before, the alternative was Cuba and that was nearly flattened so we made the right decision.
