PC for Under 700.00 - any ideas?

Hi All

This is my first post, so please don't get to upset if I have posted this in the wrong place!

I have just had news that I will be getting a bit of a bonus this year and would like to put half of it towards a new computer! (and the other half into my savings account!)

I have about 700.00 pounds to spend - what is the best P.C to buy??

I want to set up a wireless network (in conjuntion with my parents P.C downstairs) and mainly use the computer for downloading music/using the net. Although I would like to be able to play the odd game or two. I have looked at Dell and they seem to be reasonable, but to be fair I really have not got a clue!!

Any help or advice would be fantastic.

Thanks

If you just want to play a few games and general browsing/downlaoding then £700 on a pc is probably overkill, you shoul dbe able to get what you want for about £300-400.

Try a local computer shop or there's some good value ones here

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Agreed CIS - £500 will buy a nice lot of kit - mind you Microsoft Orifice ( if needed ) etc can really bump up the price

Local shop at least will give free advice and better service to a novice than dealing online with companies that really don't have much to spare for customer support.

First question a local shop will ask is ' What kind of games do you want to play ? '

Get that right if you only want basic games and you can save £100 + .

Yes, I know PC World tried to charge a friend about £250 for a graphics card when all the games the PC was going to be used for was her little boy's tweenies games etc.
