Memory Stick Error on Sony DSC-V1 Digital Camera

I've got a Sony DSC-V1 digital camera with a problem. It takes the standard Sony compatable memory sticks as normal and I have 4 in total - 2 genuine Sony Memory Stick Pros and 2 Sandisk Memory Sticks Pros.

When I insert the Sandisk memory sticks, the camera works normally in every respect and I can download the pictures to my computer via a memory stick reader into a USB port.

For a while, the Sony sticks did the same and worked normally in the camera. However, recently, for some reason, when I insert the Sony sticks the camera comes up with a 'memory stick error' and flashes a code C:13:01. I've tried various tricks like cleaning the contacts, blowing the memory stick slot clear, trying to slowly insert the stick etc, all to no avail. In addition, the computer will not even recognise the sticks, which is annoyiing because I have about 512 Mb worth of photos on the sticks ready to download.

Put the Sandisks back in, camera works fine. Put the Sonys in, camera comes up with the error code.

Anyone any ideas of what is going on and why one brand seems to work and the other doesn't? Furthermore, has anyone any tips on how to get the Sony sticks to work correctly?

Appreciate any help/advice.
