Will a room thermostat help?

If you don't have a stat on your hot water cylinder, the boiler will heat the water to the same temperature as the water in the radiators.
Bear in mind that the boiler only heats one supply of water and that temperature is set by the 0-5 dial you spoke about earlier.
That water runs through an indirect coil in your cylinder and transfers heat to the hot water in the tank.
On systems with a cylinder stat, once the desired(set) heat for the domestic hot water in the tank is reached, the water is diverted away from the tank by a valve closing.0 -
I'd guess if the LL hasn't installed a room thermostat and there's only a couple of radiator thermostats the chance of having a thermostat on the hot water is a very remote chance! Everything so far indicates it's a very cheap CH installation doesn't it?0

Oo - it's starting to go over my head now. I think I understand though and seem to recall my other house having such a valve; would that also have meant that I could have had the heating on without being required to have the water heating?
No rush to reply - I have been away from my computer but thank you for you information.Blonde: Unemployed: Bankrupt.

Oh yes - you're right there. Not the LL's fault though as he didn't
buy the house until 2000 and it was built in the 70's with the heating added at a later date....
However, his take on it is that it works 'OK' so "if it ain't broke etc etc" which is fair enough I suppose. I have always known that it could be improved and made more efficient, economical etc. but it has taken research (i.e. asking on here) to look at what should be done. Still doubt very much that he'll fund anything (he tried to get me to say that I was disabled so that I would be eligible for the warmfront boiler fitting grant so he'd be fine if it cost him nothing), I am a little reluctant though to shell out for something that stays with the house though....but will definitely be speaking to someone about a room thermostat, not sure what to do about a cylinder stat though.
Thanks again.Blonde: Unemployed: Bankrupt.

May be helpful if you posted the make/model of your boiler. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Unfortunately the site that I have previously downloaded manuals from here is now subscription only. If you could get hold of an installation/service manual it would help regarding the room stat fitting. Perhaps someone else can help with this? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Not much joy, but another forum suggested it would be a Honeywell plan C

Its only a tiny picture though. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
So - the model of boiler is relevant when it comes to purchsing/fitting a room thermostat? I thought I could just get any old one.....
I can understand that diagram believe it or not - not that I could do anything with it.
