can't install my printer.

Hello, can anyone please give me any advice.
I have a new laptop, with a vista package on it. I have a basic printer a lexmark z650.

Basically I'm trying to install the printer onto my laptop but i'm having problems. All seems to be going well until it suggests printng a page for alignment ( I think) but says it can't procced cos the printer is not communicating with my laptop.

Anyone with any ideas? I have thought of contacting lexmark but can only find a sales number, so I hope someone on here might have some suggestions.

Have you checked that the USB cable is seated securely at both ends?

Did you install the driver for the printer BEFORE connecting the USB cable from the printer to your laptop?

Can you right click on your printer, choose Properties and click on the Ports tab. What does it say next to the tick?

got the feeling the Z650 is not supported on Vista , it's not on the list of printers on the Vista driver list

Seems Browntoa was right something to do with compatability.
I guess a new one is required.

That is a cheap trick by Lexmark! Please buy a different make next time, there are plenty to choose from that take cheap compatible cartridges.

Thanks, To be honest, my dad bught it for me 3 years ago when he bought my desktop, I never thought for a second i wouldn't be able to use it with my laptop.

Like you say a cheap trick, more money spent on something that shouldn't be necessery

I had this problem when i started using Vista-ive got a x5470 Lexmark printer.So i went onto the Lexmark site and there was a driver to download for it.I downloaded it uninstalled the printer then reinstalled it with the new driver and hey presto it worked! Might be worth doing that?

Thanks, I did try that but it appears there is still a problem, maybe its my fault I have tried to install it several times, and as a result had to un install it again.

I keep getting the same message, that the printer isn't communicating with my computer.
