Is it not an insurance for emergency repairs, like plumbing/electricity?
You must have signed up for something?0 -
Did you find out who HOME SERVICE INS. are? I've just started getting direct debits from my account - twice this month, firstly for £22.99 and then £28.72.0

Phone your bank, they should be able to check when the DD was setup, and also reference the Originator ID which will normally provide a more detailed name (or perhaps the real companies name), address, telephone and fax.
If you never agreed to set it up or it turns out to be fraudulent I wouldn't worry too much, just pop into your local branch, fill out a Direct Debit Indemnity Form. You are protected under the Direct Debit Guarantee, so any money taken that should not have been will be refunded.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
this direct debit is active on my account i have cancelled it twice and been refunded by my bank but its back again bank says contact them but as i have no idea who they are and i have never set up any DDs and the bank wont tell me who they are, not that i would contact them anyway as its a complete scam. just keep cancelling and refunding by the bank (by law they must refund the same day) or close the account.0

As indicated in my previous post, most banks will have details (normally: name, address, telephone and fax number) of the Originator ID.
If that still doesn't work, you can report the Originator to Bacs (the organisation who run the Direct Debit Scheme). Details linked below:-

What law?
The Direct Debit Guarantee (which is not a law) states:Bacs wrote:If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by the organisation or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society
There is no set timescale for a refund, although "immediately" is normally interpreted as within 24 hours.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I have had amounts of £4.00 taken in the last four months. Bank has given me a refund, company name and an address! Googled the company and a different address is given on the internet compared to what the bank gave me! Company name Home Service GB Ltd based in Wallsal, West Midlands. They are a Plumbing and Heating company offering their services around Wallsal. I live in London, have not purchased anything from the company or enlisted their services either! Looks like a scam, good to check bank statements regularly and keep an eye out on DD. Amazing to think the first post of this was 2008 and it is now 2011!0

I'm not allowed to post a link. You can contact them on 0800 24 7 999
Not a scam but if you've not signed up with them, you should contact them asap.0
