AVG :anyone else had this problem??

Can anyone help? or even advise?

Basicly I have been using AVG for about a month now and am 99% sure its AVG that has caused this problem with my programmes.

Basicly, many of them will not now work. My no.1 annoyance is that it will not let me use Napster- or t will, but only if I reinstall it EVERY SINGLE TIME! I have thus lost all the music I had on Napster as I have to re-download it every single time and so start my account info page anew every time I re-install it.

I contacted Napster whom I thought fixed it, but my scan happens every day, so the next day, the problem came back, I couldnt use Napster again unless I reinstalled it.

I didnt have this problem with oncecare or nortan, but they were the free trials and I cannot afford £50 on a new virus protection, I just dont have that sort of money!

I cannot access the forums for AVG, as it will not recognise my password- even when I try asking for a new one, and even if I try to re-register, there is no contact detail/s for AVG if you do need help. It seemed to be a decent programme but it seems to have caused more problems then I thought it ever could!

Can anyone out there help at all?

If you are just using the basic AVG free antivirus software, it seems unlikely that it is causing the problems you describe.

One sure way to check: At the end of the day when you have finished using the internet, uninstall AVG and then first thing the following day check that the Napster problem is still there.

If it is, the problem is not AVG, so you can reinstall it and look elsewhere.

If it's not, try another AV program such as Avira which is widely recommended by others on this forum.

I thin I will have to try something else- I have just reinstalled napser again. I thn clsed it, and ran AVG to see what would happen. Next I tried to click on napster and....
    same error message!

    Its driving me mad!

I never had this problem with Norton or avast, but with both of those I had SO MANY pop-ups advertising to buy the product, or upgrade and these made my computer run so slow.. that I thought I had dealth with it through getting the AVG free version.

I didnt think it could be the free version either- which is why I left it alone for an entire month and tried to sort it out through windows, but I cant find anything wrong, its been allowed through the firewall, everything else seemsfine, its not appearing on the vista errors, it 'just' seems to not work when Avg has scanned. I have no idea how to stop AVG scanning it, I cant find the right place to click to stop AVG messing with Napster anywhere!

No help I know, but I had AVG8 and it prevented viewing any Windows media player items which were embedded in websites.
I couldn't find any other references to the same problem, so gave up with AVG and went with Avast.

for what it's worth, i personally don't use any anti virus software - i use the zone alarm free firewall and find that's all i really need.

    Seriously mate ~ thats crazy
Say fopr example you were auto directed to a nasty website page. An anti virus would stop the threat, with zonealarm you wouldnt even know you were being attacked!

Out of sheer intrigue ~ heres a SCANNER should you ever want to check your drives

Nothing!!! Its only a matter of time before you will be trying to unscrewup (new word) your computer or find a bank account hacked. Best of luck, you'll need it.

i don't use online banking, so that's never an issue, and i'm not stupid enough to fall for the phishing emails as well. I have a pre-pay mastercard for any online purchases, so that's never an issue either.

I must be doing something right because i've used the internet extensively for about 15 years and never had any issues with viruses at all.

I understand your computer 'works', but how do you KNOW if you have one? (or rather know you DONT??)

I know I don't have any for two reasons. i recently re-formatted my PC to re-install windows after using Linux for a little while (I fancied a change :)).

I made sure zonealarm was installed before I switched on my cable modem.

and while I don't use any anti virus software on my PC, I do occasionally use the trend micro housecall website to scan my PC - but then this in itself is very occasionally. Once or twice a year at most.
