I read somewhere, some time ago that it was possible to have the economy seven meter altered so that you can get a boost to the heaters in the early evening/late afternoon Anyone through any light on this please ??

You would need to check with your supplier - the economy10 or 'heatwise' tariffs are only available in selected areas, and only from a few suppliers.
If your heaters are not lasting into the evening on economy7, it is likely that your installation is undersized - this is a common problem with older economy7 installations as many were under-specified to make running costs appear lower.
For storage heaters to work effectively, the heaters need sufficient total storage capacity to last the day out, and all parts of the house need to be heated. This is to prevent heat being drawn from the heated parts of the house into the colder parts - storage heaters respond to this by increasing their output and thus using up their stored heat prematurely.
Hope this helps! :j0
