My Bank Keeps Taking Money From My Acount For No Reason

About 1 1/2 months ago I logged in to my online banking to check my bank statement and found that my bank had taken £140 in charges from my account for no reason at all and had refused to pay some of my bills. There was more than enough money in my account to pay these bill and no reason for the charges. I phoned up my bank to complain but they were very un helpful and did not want to know. I have also written two letters of complaint and have had no response. Today I checked my back account and they had done the same thing again. Today they have taken £114 in charges from my bank account and have refused to pay 3 bills even though there was more than enough money in my account to pay these bills. I have evidnce of this as My bank account statements quite clearly show both times that there was more than enough money to pay these bill. I am getting really fed up with this and don't know what to do. its alot of money they have taken and I really need it Also it has caused a lot of inconvinence as I have ended up in trouble with many companys due to the bank not paying my bills. Surely what they are doing is stealing. What should I do to get my money back. Should I file a claim the same as if I was claiming bank fees back. And also if I do file a claim will it end up being put on hold until the out come of next test case. surely they couldn't put it on hold due to the circumstances could they as they basically just stole the money from my account. any help or advice would be much appreciated.

When you say you had money in the account, that money has to be in the account the working day before outgoing payments are made...as per your T&C's.

Additionally, the money in the account needs to be cleared funds (so cheques in clearance don't count). Was it?
  • The money had been paid in several days before and was paid in in cash, So yes there was cleared funds in bank at time on both occassions and it was paid in in plenty of time.

If you've had no response to your first letter of complaint (assuming you made it through the correct channel?) after 8 weeks, then take your complaint to the FOS.
  • When you say "asumming you went through the right channels" What would be
the right channel then. Who should I have sent letter of complaint to. I sent letter of complaint to the bank manager at my bank where im registered and where I set up account. Is this correct or should I have sent complaint some where else. My bank is Natwest. Also when writting letter of complaint, I just wrote a general letter saying I was very unhappy and I demanded my money back. would this have been ok or should I have written a letter more like the template letters for claiming back bank charges on this website.
  • Do you think I should send another letter of complaint and actually state and give them a certain amount of time to get back to me. Before taking it further

All providers have to have a complaints procedure. NatWest's is here...

As "writing to your bank manager" is listed as a valid method, I'd go to the FOS 8 weeks after sending the letter as I said earlier.

Don't waste your time with the bank charge reclaim letters...an official complaint based on what you've said earlier will get faster results.

Why don't you open a new bank account with a different bank in the meantime, so that it doesn't happen again, then go through complaints/reclaiming procedures?
    Anytime;)
