Hi everyone
My children were fortunate to be able to walk out with a football team that I recorded on my Sky+ box. Trouble is it takes 15% of the capacity and one day the machine will fail. Can anyone advise me on the best way to protect the recording? Can it be transferred to a DVD or PC? I don't have a recordable DVD player at the moment but should be able to get access to one.
Thanks for reading
Phil

Hi Phil,
If you can get hold of a recordable dvd player then its simple. I quite often tape things on sky + then put them onto DVD. Its pretty much the same as if you were to use a video recorder. Set the DVD recorder up so that its connected to the Sky+ box and tune it in so that one of the channels on the DVD is your sky+, then literally just start playing your sky+ recording and press record on the DVD. Check with whoever you borrow the DVD recorder off of though, with mine I have to finalise the disk otherwise it will not play on a different player (only the one it was recorded on). That might just be mine though, lol!
Don't know of any other way to preserve your recording than this.

It's not. You generally have to finalise DVDs to be able to use them. It's important to double check both that you have finalised them (otherwise as you say they won't work on other machines), and that you have copied everything you want to before you do finalise them (if it is DVD-R format you won't be able to change the content after having finalised).I have to finalise the disk otherwise it will not play on a different player (only the one it was recorded on). That might just be mine though, lol!
If you do not have a DVD recorder, a slightly more extravagant way is to use something like an Archos Media Recorder to record directly from the Sky+ Box. You can then copy the file straight to a PC and burn a DVD from there. Obviously this is only for those who actually have Archos hardware. If you don't I wouldn't recommend buying one just for this feature; far too expensive!"MIND IF I USE YOUR PHONE? IF WORD GETS OUT THATI'M MISSING FIVE HUNDRED GIRLS WILL KILL THEMSELVES."0 -
if you record it to DVD and finalize the disc properly, it's also possible to rip it to your PC and convert it to a video file to edit it and play around with it.
you could add credits, graphics e.t.c... jazz it up a bit.0 -
would also suggest upping the data to somewhere like BT Vault and a couple of other private sites etc so you have a copy if the DVD gets lost, fails etc or your PC hard drive fails. At least you will always have a copy0
