Hi I was looking on the chart see link http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/safe-savings
regarding "Which savings providers count as one financial institution?"
And I see that Alliance & Leicester stand alone But when you go to the Alliance & Leicester website you get this below at the bottom of their page

Can I invest 50k in Alliance & Leicester & 50k Bradford & Bingley & get 100k guaranteed return
Kevin
PS Ive had to repost this because it didn't show up in "new posts"
I should have read further and seen this
The situation for Abbey & Alliance and Leicester, we've been told, is that there are 'no plans to change' either of their FSA registrations, meaning they’ll stay separate institutions and you’re protected up to £50,000 in each
OK but can I trust them "what happens if they merge" I will have to move 50K & its took me 20 days to get my 5 diget pin from Alliance and Leicester only to find out that it doesn't work and my account is now locked
So you cant move any money around even if you want to the UK banking thing is a joke

Yes, 50k in each will be OK.
A&L are maintaining a separate banking licence to Abbey/Santander (for now at least anyway).0 -
Is that going to change now that they are fianlly one group?
Eventually yes. However, they can still run individual licences as long as they want.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
