Quick TC question

I rang the helpline this morning to add my new daughter to my claim (I already claim for my two boys).

The man said that that was fine and he would do that for me, and that they would reassess my claim. What I would like to know is - They didnt ask for any proof - is this usual?

Also, how long will it take to reassess, and will my payments be stopped while they do this?

Has anyone else had a similar situation?

  • They will automatically try to verify your new child's details through the child benefit database.
Child benefit will ask for the birth certificate. If they are unable to match the details within a certain period of time they will write to you to ask for the birth certificate.

So yes this is perfectly normal.

It usually only takes 2 or 3 days to re-calculate your award with a new baby and you payments are not stopped in the meantime. If you are quite eager to know your new award try calling them around Tuesday to ask if the award has been updated.
  • Thanks for that - better get my Child Benefit form sent off then!
