Is this the end of EGG BFT's??

Just received the following e-mail from Egg

"We wanted to get in touch to tell you about a special offer we currently have on balance transfers for our Egg Card customers.

What's happening?
If you move your balances from any other credit or store card, loans or overdrafts to your Egg Card before 31 December 2005, you'll get 9.9% pa fixed until 1 May 2006. From 2 May 2006 you'll pay our standard rate, currently 15.9% pa variable. We also need you to know that for each balance transfer made, there is a 2% handling fee (maximum £50)."

Is this fee new??

    I got one too ...

My anniversary month is June. So if I had a balance on the card and then did a transfer in June - would it still be at 0% for 5 months, or would I need to clear the card first.

Also - if a balance was on the card - would payments be allocated to the highest % APR balance first?

    Thanks

You would need to clear the balance first. ie transfer it out, then transfer it back in.

The 2% fee for non-anniversary balance transfers has been normal since May.

There's no need to panic. This is an Egg 'special promotion' for selected cardholders, and the details of these are given in the Egg T&C's and in your individual communications from Egg.

When they gave this offer to selected cardholders in October, it ran from the 5th to the end of the month - coincidentally the same period as this one.

I'm not convinced they're specifically targetting people with anniversary offers due, but a lesson here for all of us would be to ensure that we carry out our balance transfers at the very start of the month.
  • Hi

I had a phone call from Egg today stating that as I was in my anniversary month I should take advantage of the 0% FEE FREE transfer offer ( I had already done so on 1st December). He then went on to say the same offer will be available next December...so to the original poster dont get fee free anniversary offers confused with special promotions as they are here for a while yet.

The Egg man then went on to try and flog me PPI, funny why he would think I needed that as he originally thought my balance was NIL at the start of the conversation ..........offcourse I declined.
