Stoozers-I need your advice

hiya-

just joined today and need your advice. i am debt free with exception of mortgage and thinking of giving this a go using the SBT method. Is ABBEY still one of best cards around for fee free balance transfers with SBT facility? i take it you then just max card out by transferring to your bank account and then select your savings vehicle.i currently have maxed out this year on a halifax isa but the mrs still has the option. is this the best option before considering the best easy access savings account?

johnbhoy

p.s-i am very tempted but also very wary!!

Already not. AFAIK BTs and SBTs fee is 2%: http://www.abbey.com/credit_cards_balance_transfer_card_print.htm
Other options: http://www.stoozing.com/0fees.htm, The Middle Route

Probably yes. Other option: combination of 4.75% easy-access account with 10% A&L regular saver giving you about 7.5% effective gross interest on £3000(6% net for 20% tax). See also: http://www.stoozing.com/savings.htm

I'm also starting stoozing, having only done "slow stoozing" so far...

Mint is another option, bearing in mind that fee free onky after 31/Jan (cheques).

You can find out more info here.

    Hope this helps...
  • cheers guys-

your replies confirmed what i thought. still worth it even with a small capped fee though may have a look at the middle route option. i was aware of the A&L savings account as i have premier current account with them so their "brand new customers only " kaiboshes that one. if i decide to go ahead think the HALIFAX ISA is the option as you said.

    cheers again

    Hi

I am interested in the "middle route" - is the egg money card available to existing customers with a standard egg card??

    Cheers

Yes it is. The standard card (Green) is a Visa and the Egg Money card is a Mastercard. It is certainly possible to get both.

Generally speaking, yes. See post #11 in Egg credit card payments question thread ...
  • I have just made appnt with ABBEY in branch after speaking to their credit card customer service dept. 2 different ABBEY emplyees advised that i can balance transfer into my current account for no fee in applying in branch (1 even said if i applied on phone i would qualify for this!). Also, i have card with A&L which i have never used and they told me that ABBEY would still charge a fee for (S)BT to bank account. What entitles A&L to give "wrong" info on other lenders cars. Am i right to be hacked off with A&L or have i missed something?? Also, being new to this, if i do go ahead can i expect this as standard level of service or do A&L simply don't want me to go elsewhere?

    thanks in advance
