Bad Debt

thank you in advance for any advice recieved. My company manufactures conservatory roofs to the trade. We supplied a roof to a 'one man band'who was previously a good customer. He did not pay on delivery as agreed but he asked to pay later in the week,as he was a good customer we trusted him.we cannot take the roof down as the householder has paid for the conservatory.he never paid us and doesnt answer his phone anymore. We called at his house to find that he has moved. All we know about him is his name and previous address. He is one of a few customers who havent paid and we are really strugling to pay our suppliers and the lads wages. These people really aggrivate me:mad:
thanks mark

If you are on normal VAT accounting then once the debt is six months old then you can write it off and reclaim the VAT - small consolation, but some consolation. Other than that, you've got to find the man and sue him. If you do eventually get the money, you'll have to invoice it again and pay the VAT again.

If he owns a ltd company then director search him down, that's how I find debt dodgers. Do you have his car reg?, you can search that. Maybe you can get a court order to reveal the forwarding address of his new address.
    Kind Regards
