Potterton Combo 100

Hi All, the above boiler in my flat has started to play up. It is about 5 years old and has been fine up to now. The problem is it locks out after being on for a short while due to I think overheating. Also once on, it won't turn off even when you turn down the thermostat. I have had a guy look at it and he says I need a new pcb and a new heat exchanger or a new boiler.

Anyone out there know if this is the case or can offer any assistance?

  • Hi, it does sound like a pcb problem although why he thinks you need a new heat exchanger I'm not sure. Try changing the pcb (much cheaper than replacing the boiler) and if that doesn't cure it, re think. I'm not sure if this is one of Potterton's problem boilers where the pcb gets too hot and is liable to fail, but it might be worth asking potterton for a replacement pcb. They got a lot of stick in the media recenty for premature pcb failures.

Strange diagnosis! Most likely to be the PCB as they are known to suffer this problem. Available here if you are capable to do it for yourself.
