the charge you quote sounds like a £124.99 connection charge less the vat. if you was n not told you dont have pay. ask if it was a start order or a provide order. if it was a start the no charges should apply. keep at it i know its a pain being passed all over but be polite and state you case.( i do work for bt and if you told me what you said( in a polite manner i must stress) then i would refund you straight away. call back be firm explain an dont shout or be rude.

I am trying to arrange a move to a new peoperty for my ex. His new landlord told him there was a phone line there and there is a socket. He asked the landlord for the phone number and the lettng agent called and said that there were 3 relevant numbers for the property but he may not want to use any as there was some query about the previous tenant going bust and therefore he might want a new number. Called BT this morning who said 2 of the 3 numbers were in use by the landlord at neighboring properties but the one relevant to the rental property was ceased in June last year. They said therefore he would have to pay £124.99 connection fee. He spoke to the letting agent who said that BT are wrong and he should pay nothing. When he moved into his present flat 6 months ago he just got a new phone number and BT just switched it back on for free. When we queried this with BT they said something about the difference with ceasing a line and just switching it off but keeping the line for further use. He is not worried about the previous tenant going bust as it was the landlord and he is well known to us personally and that is not our business. Question is can BT charge this and if so should my ex ask the landlord to pay as he was told there was a phone line when he first viewed. At the moment he has phoned the agent and asked them to try to sort it out between the owner and BT

    can BT charge this

    Yes.

If the line has been ceased and engineering work is required at exchange or between exchange and the property then a connection charge is normally raised.

Their is a £29.99 connection offer but its subject to an 18 month contract, which may not suit your ex.

I'm bumping this back up as its reared its ugly head again.

I had spoke to someone at BT who said the charge will be removed. I got several reminders for the full amount but when I phoned I was told I would only have to pay a further £30 to settle my bill

My latest bill is £185 and shows a balance of 124.99 as being carried forward which is the connection charge which has not been removed.

I am now back at start with them talking about connection charges are required and BT Openreach. Surely they will have a record on my account of who I spoke to about this matter and it being removed.

The line was in perfect working order but was issued with the wrong number by BT which stopped it from working. The engineer told me this.

I'd love to call BT again and spend over an hour being put through to various departments but luckily my handset is broken so I can't use the phone line. At least with e-mails I'll have a record of all contact received.

Is anyone else experienced a similar problem ?
