Advice on selling car

I want to sell my small car still under warranty with extremely low mileage. Its as new really.

I havent had any responses from local paper. Could anyone give me advice as to best place to sell please.

Local dealers probably wouldnt give much. I dont know about car auctions.

Thanks in anticipation of your helpful replies.

Auctions are the same, and you wont get a good price there atm. You MAY be able to wangle a good price from a dealer if you are looking to buy new again. Its a buyers market atm and if you go in with the Glasses guide price you will be one step ahead and know what they should]/i] be offering...

    HTH :)

I think the way things are, if you're not looking to buy something else you'll have to bite the bullet and take the loss. Auction is guaranteed to shift it quickly but probably not at a price you'd hope for.
  • Thanks.

Will the glasses valuation be any different to the one I got at What Car please.

Have you tried sticking it in Autotrader? I'd try that before going to auction (which really is only likely to achieve bottom trade price anyway). Mention the fact that it is still under warranty and this will make it appear less of a risk to buyers as well.

I see you have tried the local paper but I don't think that will have reached anywhere near the readership of Autotrader which also has a searchable website so you get online buyers as well.

Go on their site and have a look for your make and model and that will give you a feel for prices and then pitch it from there.

It's also worth a call to local dealers as well, but times are hard so top prices will be hard to come by.

What make and model is it? Some makes hold their value more than others and even colour makes a difference to resale.

    Good luck, Tiddly

Try gumtree.co.uk it is free and you can put up three pics. I put mine on there and shifted it in about a week. If you decide to do it then there are a few tips; put it on all locations anywhere near you, not just your local area. Update your ad every couple of days to make sure it stays near the top of the list.

Like I said at the beginning as it is free you've nothing to lose at all.
  • Its a picanto Kia GS bought last December. Still under warranty and with only 400 miles on clock.

I bought it for £5,333.00. I advertised in local paper just once .Only had 2 people call although a third one rang yesterday.

A couple looked at it. There was a few faint scratches on the bonnet which you cant even see. Its immaculate apart from these tiny scratches. She said a delaer will charge £200-£300 to remove these scratches. A friend who used to work in cars said its wear and tear thats all. I doubt this couple will bother taking it to a garage for unseen scratches.

So I agreed on £3.750 which I now regret. Im a novice with cars and someone on here said its a buyers market and others have said theres a recession so I thought I wouldnt really get any offers.

I will have lost nearly £2000 on a car that looks brand new. I wonder if I could go back on the deal. I would just feel rotten.

IMO if they have left a deposit then you should take it on the chin and go through with the deal. If they haven't them I'd just give them a ring and say that you don't want to sell it at that price.

If you think you'd fell rotten calling of the deal, it won't be half as rotten as you'd feel when you're counting the cash and it isn't as much as you want (or feel the car is worth).

Make sure though that you are confident that you can sell it for more as it may be more hassle than it is worth if you get a few hundred more but are stuck with it for another couple of months.

These scratches obviously can be seen, they are not " wear and tear " on a car that has only covered 400 miles.

Just take the agreed price and move on.;)

An 07 low mileage is worth £3,750 as an excellent trade in (glass's). I presume yours is older than that. I very much doubt you will get a better offer and will possibly get much less. Folk always think their car is worth more than it is.

I very mich doubt the folk who made the offer will be back!

They can be seen if you've got your nose right to the car bonnet, but they cant be that obvious as Ive never noticed them. They are certainly not scratches caused by someone malicious. Maybe branches. They are wear and tear cos someone who used to deal in the trade has seen them and described them as such. I would take more note of a person like that than you.

I also dont like being told what to do. I dont mind suggestions.

I note Inactive that you like to give snotty replies and if they are !!!!!y I ignore advice usually from that person. I WOULD REALLY PREFER IF YOU DIDNOT ANSWER my posts in future.thanks.I havent as yet had a response from you that is helpful and not designed to wind me up. I usually avoid this site if I can help it for that reason.

Why would you presume my car is older. It isn't.Also why would you presume I thought my car was worth more. I dont. I went by a what car valuation and my friends son who used to be in the trade. It stated £4000.I already said I dont know much about cars. Ive also seen the same car advertised for far more that are older and have more mileage. Ive done research and im not being greedy.

As for people not coming back. Theyve already arranged to come back for your information and have phoned me. I dont see why you have to have attitute. Its not you Im selling the car to.I dont see why you should take offence.

Thanks Teryya and others for your constructive and well meaning advice.Im grateful for anything helpful and will look into the advertising.
