gross misconduct

i recently got sacked for gross misconduct and today i had a meeting at the job centre to see if i am entitled to job seekers allowance.
when i got there they gave me a book which i filled in over the phone and of course one of the questions was why have you left your previous job the answer was sacked!
the woman who interviewed me said if it was for gross misconduct it would be refered to another department.
im now worried i am not entitled to anything, you see im waiting on council tax and rent help too.
please can someone advise me on what they think i should do next and if i will be entitled to anything??
thanks in advance

Hi
They could sanction you which means not paying you benefit. The problem is that its discretionary so it might be for a week or many weeks. JCP will look at each case individually and if you it considers you had just cause to leave, then they might not sanction. However, its trickier if you have been sacked for gross misconduct but read the para below.
You may qualify for hardship payments of jsa during this time which are slightly less than your normal rate of jsa.
If you have no/low income you can still claim housing benefit and council tax benefit so don't worry. The Cabbage

thanks, well i have no income and about 2000 in the bank
so does that mean if i dont get jsa i will be entitled to something
and will still be entitled to my rent and council tax being paid?0 -

£2k in the bank should tide you over for a couple of months while the job centre sort out your claim.0 -
Or find a new job????0

each case is judged by its individual merit and the decision maker will look at the reason you were sacked. They will only issue the sanction if they believe you deliberatley put yourself out of work.
alot depends on what your former employer tells them.0 -
