Xbox 360 problem

Hi

i dont know how well i will explain this but here goes

My xbox comes up with a message that a system update needs to be installed, however i am not on Xbox live so i have tried to download the update from xbox and put it on a cd, but when i put the disc into the xbox it knows the disc is there and says its a mixed media disc but will not install the update from it!!



i did read that you need to have the hard drive to be able to install updates, does anyone know if this is true as i only have the arcade package with memory card!!

Unless you connected your console to xbox live at some point, it shouldnt know an update is required, can you not reconnect it in the same manner again ?

it wouldnt even come up with anything about a update if you wasnt connected to the internet,,
but for some reason i have a feeling you are trying to play back compatability games as you cannot put the xbox live update onto CD from what i know

are you trying to play an original xbox game?

it came up with the message when i put a memory stick in with a film on it, said it could not play until an update had been installed

Is it always true that you need to have connected to x-box live for your machine to know it needs an update?If you try to play some HD-DVD's it needs an update and if you try one of the oblivion expansions it asks the same. Is that the problem the OP is having, you tried to play a game and it asked for an update? I had that problem and borrowed a friends wireless adaptor to connect up.... (yes I could have draged it down to my broadband router but the adaptor was the easier route). Have heard of similar problems with trying to burn the CD's from website which is why I tried that.

I would suggest just hooking it up at a friends place with an internet connection for 5 minutes if you REALLY want to watch that video, would be the easiest way around it. Isnt difficult to hook it up at all!

when i bought unreal tournament 3 it said i had to install an update to be able to play it.
