halogen lighting problems

just had lots of halogen 50w bulbs fitted in new extention.but the downlighters do not seem to be that bright probably because the are not bouncing off the walls as much as i had hoped to give more reflectied lighting.
does anyone know of any glass discs i can insert between the ceiling and the light itself.this may sound crazy but if i had an insert the there would be some reflected light from the light bulb onto the ceiling with all the different colours .i am not talking of lighting up the whole street but just some more light onto the ceiling.
my shower lights are q good cos the are halagen too but the have like what i would call a light disperser and that workks ok.anything simular to that would be good
thanks

I'm not sure I understand you right, but in my home I have some of these halogen lights with sealed glass covers & some without. When I need to buy new bulbs now I just ensure I buy the ones with the glass cover as I prefer the look of them. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Halogen spot lights are going to give spots of light.
In larger rooms they tend to look not as bright because the light does not spread out very much. I dont know if you can buy a diffuser for them but I dont think it would do very much to them, it is just the nature of the light really.
I think the reason they seem better in the shower is that they are in a smaller room so the light does actually hit the walls and bounce off.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
Firstly you may not have fitted enough, and you may need to fit more. If you use a dicroic lamp this will generate greater levels of light, you probably have the cheaper type bulb in there.

Are they low voltage or mains voltage?:coffee:0 -
if your lights are low voltage and they do not run off individual transformers,They may be dim as a result of volt drop in the cable. Also you can buy halogen bulbs which give out the light at different angles some concentrate the beam straight down others spread it out..You can buy spots which have a glass diffuser that hangs about 2 cm from the fitting depending on the type you buy you can get the effect you want.I have them fitted in my main bedroom and they do the job well.If the bulbs are dim though that wont solve the problem.0

my lights are thru a transformer and maybe i am too used to the brightness ofthe bathroom halogens. i did however see some halogens like mine but they had a frosted glass diffuser type thing which came down about two inches around the halogen light , a bit like a shower light with a hole cut out for extra light brightness.
this was in the tong garden cente near driglington ,near leeds.
i may just need to put a few more expensive bulbs in .there must be a reason for some halogen lights to cost £1.50 and some at 70p.
i think sparky could have advised me better thought. idid say from beginning that it has got to be bright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for year thoughts
