Unfortunately, because of the confusion marketing used by nearly all the suppliers, it's not a simple case of comparing unit prices; you need to consider all the various discounts that may apply.
This is why there is a market for comparison sites - I'm sure anyone could simply compare unit prices but with all the different discounts that must then be considered, it needs much more calculation.
If you want an example of no fuss tariff, take a look at ebico.
If you want to see an example of confusion marketing at it's worst - see the thread on nPower sculpting."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
thanks for the replies.

Electric 15.17p (1st 728 kwh) then 13.39p
Gas 7.463p (1st 4572kwh) then 2.235p
Npower fixed price 2011.....I'm pretty sure they said that I'd get an £80 discount for DD, but planning to double check that.0 -
If oil prices continue to tumble then gas and electric prices should ease a little, so would avoid cap or fix. Of course, I don't have a crystal ball. BG have just increased my electricity prices .. as follows. (Ex Vat & with VAT)
Click Energy 6 - although there are some regional variations. You guys all seem to be paying too much!
Tier 1 (for the first 125 kWh) 18.784 19.723
Tier 2 (remaining) 8.665 9.0980 -
Electric prices day rate 11.572 night rate 6.0600
