Factor in all the increased national debt and the interest charged on it that the government has taken on in the past few weeks and the cost of reclaiming, if that is possible, if not the loss of the money councils had in Icelandic banks.

Increase Council and Income tax, plus add new stealth taxes that will be introduced and you will have a more realistic look at your future.

    You wont like it.

Hey its sad but its true, make accomodations now and it will ease things later.

One of the philiosophies of this forum on debt is NOT to bury your head in the sand. Face up and fess up. We will all be facing increased taxation in the future.

if you work over 30hrs a week and are single you may be able to get working tax credits - it's worth a try.

This credit union site is confusing me... I don't have a clue what I'm looking for, I searched and there are tons.

Not entitled to tax credits, thanks though.

I found one for North Edinburgh, aparantly I'm north-west Edinburgh so not sure it will cover me. Tried to phone but they are only open on Tues and Thurs between 4 - 7pm. The whole thing confuses me, I don't understand them at all. What kind of business is open 6 hours a week at night... don't think there are any others that I have a 'common interest' with.

Some credit unions are run by volunteers and many operate unusual hours so that people who work can access them.

Just find one in Edinburgh that is open and ring them. The usually know about others in their patch.

Found one that makes me feel a bit more confident about them :p

They cover a wider area, open everyday. I phoned up and she said if I go in with two forms of ID then I can join and apply for a loan at the same time. Is there a chance I won't get one? I don't need a good credit rating do I?

Going to pop down on Tuesday, they are open late then, will go after work.

They will want quite a lot of information regarding your situation. They are designed to help people with poor credit ratings so that they do not take out pay day and provident loans. They do look at afforability.

You may need to explain about your relationship break-down so they understand how you got into this mess.
It might also be worthwhile asking for any cheque to be made out to the Council or the Provident so they can see you are serious about wanting to clear these debts up.
