The £36 travel costs is a monthly bus pass, which is cheaper than a weekly one. - good one

Don't really have anything to sell at all...

Still sign up for freecycle and read the Boost your income thread I posted earlier. Even if you only make £30 a month it is better than a kick in the teeth.

My earnings are low? That's £13,500 per year, it's not too low is it?

The minimum income for a single person to have a reasonable life is £13,400 and that's just roof, food and basics. Your rent is very high, so you will struggle on that.

The council tax, I'm not sure exactly what it will be monthly, still waiting on my card to pay it. Tried to call them today but their systems are down. I was just dividing the £700 odd im to pay by the 7 months its for. The water is in with my council tax.

I assume you are refering to your new place here?

My mobile is £15 because that is the deal I use on PAYG, £15 and I get unlimited calls/texts to other o2 numbers. Can't find anything cheaper out there. My broadband/tv/phone is all in one.

If you really want to get debt-free, you may have to think abut this. I know you have grown up expecting to have a mobile but when push comes to shove (or the bailiffs are coming), this is a luxery. Ditto th other package, although I understnad why you want to keep it.

Can't get my ex to pay because haven't a clue where he is, neither do any of the companies.

I have a very bad credit rating... no chance of getting any credit card.

Did you have any joint accounts with OH? if so, you need to get him off your credit record.

Also please contact the credit union ASAP. if you can get either the old CT or the Provident sorted it will help a lot.

get a second job, as Christmas is coming. Even a bit of bar work that gets you out and gets you paid as well.

Go over to the Money Saving Old Style forum and do a store cupboard challenge - list the stuff in the cupboards and the freezer and they will help you live very cheaply.

And look at the freebies sections - good place for free Christmas pressies and goodies for yourself.

If push come to shove, can you move back in with family for a few months?

  • Not all councils are keen on people paying over 12 months but I believe that there is a legal precedent that says they have to so not sure if is worth appealing if they refuse.

Not a chance of finding him, only friend he has that I know isn't sure where he is staying, or just isn't telling me.

Hey jinky, beginning to wish I hadn't bothered, it's depressing me!

And here was me thinking £13,500 was good, best I've ever had anyway. Yep, I meant my new place. Bailiffs? Didn't realise I was at that stage....

I'm on a 6 month lease so even if I could move in with family (which I can't) I'd still be having to pay the rent anyway.

I'd rather do without my house phone than my mobile, been considering getting rid of that...

I don't even know what a credit union is :rotfl:

This will explin them and you can find the nearest one to you.

    http://www.abcul.org/page/index.cfm

They specifically work with people on low incomes, so they will understand exactly where you are coming from.

You are not thankfully, but the reason making payment of the CT a priority is because they can get a liability order with you knowing and if you do not pay very quickly the next thing is the bailiffs get involved.

There are ways of dealing with it, but we get lots of folks in a right mess because of their Ct debt because they did not realise how important it is to sort it out.

Factor in all the increased national debt and the interest charged on it that the government has taken on in the past few weeks and the cost of reclaiming, if that is possible, if not the loss of the money councils had in Icelandic banks.

Increase Council and Income tax, plus add new stealth taxes that will be introduced and you will have a more realistic look at your future.

    You wont like it.
