I must admit, i'm getting tempted by it. I dont have the first idea how you buy or trade shares, though

When thinking about retail businesses shares there is a simple bit of analysis that can be done: Are the shops busy? I have been in two Woolworths this week at peak shopping times and the stores have been very quiet. I can only imagine that he has seen some some other value in the group.0

I'm in the same position. Looking at some of the banks - HBOS and RBS have gone down by 75% in the last year. Can they really go down much further?
I refuse to believe the government would let either die completely so there's got to be a non-zero bottom for them.
Trouble is I haven't got the sorts of money spare to make it worthwhile, having paid commission.0 -
I'm thinking of picking up 2K worth of shares in RBS soon. Probably after a few weeks of stable market.
I'll be looking for a decent return and willing to hold for at least 4 years. Hopefully I can opt to have my dividends paid in extra stock.Savings

It's something I'm definitely considering and I'm currently swatting up on the subject

I agree, Woolworths looks so old fashioned and I'm sure I've read that they are struggling to compete with Internet CD/DVD/Games sales, so Sugar must have seen something in them?0 -
never fancied woolworths. i do see it as old fashioned, dated and never really busy. although they have just leased out 9 stores to tescos:
"It said proceeds from the disposals, which are expected to take up to six months, will be used to reduce group borrowings.
Assuming all nine leases are transferred, a profit of about 7 million pounds would be generated."
