british gas prepayment meter
Hi
I have gas and electricity provided by British gas. I pay gas by quarterly bill and electricity by prepayment meter. I have been told that you are charged more if you pay by pp meter is this true.
In a nutshell, what would be my best option :
Change from a meter to monthly/quarterly for electricity ?
change supplier ?
any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Most suppliers charge prepayment customers more for their fuel. This is in part due to a number of reasons: cost of meter, commision to shop/outlet where you by credit, fee to company operating shop network (payzone, paypoint) and for elec the company thqat collects all this infoamrtion and sends it to the correct supplier. You could try contacting the supplier but typically there charge to change a meter when the exchange is of no benefit to them. Hope that helps.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

If it was you that asked for the pre-payment meter they will charge you to change it back to a 'dry' meter however if the meter was installed before you moved in, as long as there are no other problems, they will change it free of charge.
You could also mention that you want to pay by direct debit, that will bring your costs down as well.0
