Any advice gratefully received...

I'm not going to bore you all with the details of the situation, but my partner and I appear to be becoming increasingly incompatible, and we've always had some pretty spectacular arguments. Recently though, things have started to get a lot more aggressive (not physically, just language, and things have a tendency to get smashed), and it's not a good environment for a five year old to grow up in.
I would just like some idea of what I might be able to claim if he were to move out (he regularly threatens to, but it's yet to happen). I've checked the entitled to website, but I'm not sure if it's entirely relevant to my situation which is -
I'm currently at college, on an Access course. (my uni fees, etc next year will hopefully be covered by an NHS bursary).
my rent is 550 a month, for a 2 bed flat, which seems quite steep, but for this village, it's about 150 lower than the average. I really want to stay put for the time being as my daughter is settled in the local primary school, and my dad lives a few minutes walk away - he has advanced terminal cancer, and I don't drive, it's really important to be close to him at the mo. But I'm on the council housing list for a couple of other areas - can they make me move?
Also, can they make me give up my course, and find a job, as I already use childcare anyway? I don't really want to do this, I don't want to live on benefits, but I feel that once I'm trained, I'll be more than repaying the benefits I've been paid, and as I'll (hopefully!) be working in the NHS, also be quite useful to society (possibly).

Sorry, it's all a bit jumbled and long winded, but I think it almost makes sense. Any info or advice would be much appreciated. Thanx xx
