Adobe Acrobat alternative .pdf reader

I've just come across a .pdf reader called Foxit Reader (source: http://www.foxitsoftware.com)

It appears to be quicker, much smaller and simpler and free.

I had looked at downloading Adobe reader but at over 30MB seemed abit large for only viewing .pdf documents...which is what i normally do.

I'd recommend it..but any thoughts from anyone else using it...?

Foxit is frequently recommended here as an alternative to Acrobat.
Another I have come across which is quite neat is Brava viewer which has the advantage of printing pdf's which you may have trouble with printing otherwise:

Foxit seems to get a lot of recommendations but I never had much luck with it (it would crash very frequently), so I had to revert back to Adobe.

  • Had foxit on 5 comps and no problems with any of them. All computers are different so react differently. Try it first, if it works ok then stick with it if not go to another.

Just to clarify that "Acrobat" is the editor and not the pdf reader. The pdf reader is "Adobe Reader". "Adobe Acrobat" is the very expensive editor. Bit of a mixing of names in some posts (and even the thread title) which may confuse some readers of the thread.

    Hi,
I use foxit now after recommendations and it is fine however it will not read some things. My friend asked me to print out some sudoku for her from her disc and it will not do this unless Adobe is installed.

Also although not a big issue, after downloading a pdf file i always have to save it now and then open it with Foxit as most things will only open immediately if you have Adobe.
  • My Foxit opens without having to save. what version are you using? mine's 2.3.3309, maybe it needs updating.
