Sticky for improving draughty council homes

Options
There seems to be a few posts here and there regarding folk in council houses that have draughty homes and are being fobbed off by their local authority saying there are no problems etc.

It might be worthwhile setting up a new sticky, perhaps on the gas and electricity board to try and get some redress for these problems. Given that these folk can be some of the most hard pressed for cash and have young families and its not even winter yet.

I haven't seen folk requesting how to seek redress. Just stating that the council are not doing anything about it or have visited a few times and found no problems etc.

Any thoughts?

What about improving draughty homes for non-council tenants

You get free double glazing, what more do you want?

I don't get free double glazing. I am renting off a private landlord. I am merely pointing out that some people on mse may benefit from a sticky that points out how they can get the council to do the relevant work. Especially since cost of heating is a good 40% greater than last year. Also bear in mind that the majority of council tenants may well be elderly, disabled, or have young children. Not to mention a lower income.

The point I was making is that there are tennants with badly fitting double glazing that is still drafty and are spending a fortune to heat their homes. Despite having visits from councils they are still not getting them repaired. ie they are being wrongly reported or fobbed off as not being a problem.

    RAFLMAO!!!!!

Yeah right - I live in a pre-1920 ex brewery cottage that is now owned by the council and also has the downside of having a listed frontage. I cannot get any replacement windows - even when I offered to pay for them myself as the frontage has to remain untouched - even though they are rotten - sash windows - I cannot open the back ones due to the council painting them last year. - They just painted over the old paint and the windows have swollen shut.

My kid's rooms are like fridges in the winter - even with the heating on - the drafts just whistle through so most nights we all end up in my room as it make sense to share body warmth - not so keen this year though as my eldest is now a strapping teen!

I've draft proofed as much as I can myself - curtains over doors, draft excludes and tape over gaps but cannot physically stop drafts through rotten window frames. The windows are also flush to the walls - the sills are on the outside (IYSWIM?) so I can't put on that cling film stuff as there is nowhere to stick it to.

And when I was a non-council tenant - I rang EAGA and they gave me a grant to get it all sorted - I don't get any benefits now so can't go down that route.

Guess I'll be just using 2 rooms this year - the living room and my bedroom and just close the rest of the house up until the winter's gone.
