the aa

not sure if on right board but i just wanted to tell you about the AA
i have been a member since 1996 and my new cards came through today.
i have roadside assistance joint cover and recovery the total cost £127, so today i phoned to say i was not happy with the cost, the lady said as a loyal customer and due to their promotions they will knock of the £50.50 for roadside thus reducing my bill to £77. i know there is cheaper around but this covers the person and not just the car so i am happy

thanks

As a new customer you'd have paid £73.12.

You should consider the option of moving to the competition every renewal and going back as a new customer the following year. Loyalty means nothing to these businesses just the renewal.

You don't even have to move to the competition. You can just wait until your renewal information comes through, cancel your policy, then sign up for a new policy.

I have done this for the past few years with the AA and taken advantage of the M&S £20 vouchers quite a few times, also as I have AA insurance as well as breakdown cover, I do this for both policies.
  • I was just quoted £143.50 but got my cover down to £63.50 by dropping Relay and accepting a 20% discount (without even asking for it).

The Relay cover isn't really essential because I don't believe they would leave us by the side of the road anyway (especially as we have a baby!)

2520 - They do leave you there.

We broke down last year, called AA, they came towed us off the motorway and as MIL had removed relay thats all they could do unless we paid £70 (or so) to upgrade.

Although I have Relay now, a few years ago I broke down (in an old Land Rover) about 10 miles from home, and although I only had basic cover, the AA man towed me home! Top chap!

of course they wouldn't leave you there but as Keith says you'd have to upgrade before they moved you any further - otherwise everyone would be subscribing to the cheap package then using the 'Ive got a baby and you can't abandon me' excuse (or the 'I'm a woman on her own' story or the 'my mother is elderly' excuse).
