  • do you use outlook express? if yes, set up a rule to send messages from the mail daemon to trash (delete), not much else you can do, 2 or 3 rules and you should see the last of it

why not just get a new email? takes 2 minutes and then just change your details with banks etc

no need to get distraught....its only a email account

    It really is that simple
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right
  • oh, before i forget, edit your post to remove all references to yourself and your email address, don't want anyone else harvesting it

    Hi Jema,

There is a possibility that your e-mail address has not actually been hijacked, but that some scum of a spammer has randomly used your e-mail address as an alternate return address for the spam e-mails they are sending out (and I mean randomly, as in they made it up and it just happens to be your e-mail address for real). What that essentially means is that if the e-mail is bounced, the 'rejected' e-mail goes to your e-mail address rather than the spammers e-mail address - in effect, they are using it as a kind of spam filter (oh the irony!) so their e-mail box doesn't get clogged up with all the bounced messages...

I can't say that is the case for definite, but it is relatively easy for them to do - it happened to a friend of mine a few years back. It would also explain why you seem to have e-mails being returned from all over the world, as spammers use lists of e-mail addresses from all over the world in their quest to con people.

Can you change your password on your e-mail address, and any other security details? If you can, you should do, and that should mean only you can access it. It may well be worth bailing for a new e-mail address as Cat suggested, though - for your own peace of mind if nothing else, especially if these mails don't stop.

Oh, and tony is right about editing identifying details etc. out of your first post - better safe than sorry! :)

    Hope that helps! :)

You can get a 30day free trial at www.spamarrest.com This would give you breathing space to see if things quieten down or get worse. Think it costs about £5 a month if you continue after that.

Sorry was typing this when you posted your latest message.
  • It might pay you to elaborate on your firewall, antivirus and spyware programs you have on your computer. It may well be a nasty has snuck in.

Can't you configure what to do with Spam emails via your webmail account. Surely there must be some options for dealing with spam?
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

why not download and install thunderbird on your computer...

so outlook processes your husbands emails, and then load up thunderbird to use your personal ntlworld email address

then you can have a decent spam filter set up to filter these things out
