how long do i have to pay my freeholder?

I need to pay my freeholder for work done on my roof. She sent the original bill on 25th September and has sent a second letter on the 6th October demanding payment by the 11th October or she will be seeking legal action. I thought you had 28 days in which to pay bills - can anyone confirm this and advise on what to do?

I've never heard of a 28 day rule for paying bills in general.
I would guess it depends on what it says in your lease.
However, I feel that sending a letter on the 6th, which probably arrived today, demanding payment by the 11th, or legal action is a little strong!

How much is the bill for?
And were you properly consulted about the planned works in the first place?
Has she included her name & address on the bill, and are a summary of your rights & obligations attached to the bill?

Have a look at LEASE for more information.

Is it over £250 per flat?
    If so...
Did she send proper notice of intention to carry out the work?
Did she offer three quotes in proper consultation?

If she didn't then you're only liable for the first £250.
