CT Benefit and Savings in Icesave

Most of my savings are in Icesave so currently unaccessible. Normally I'd have too much in the way of savings to be eligible for claiming CT benefit (and income related JSA as well) so I was wondering what the effect was.

I suspect at the moment that the money is still counted as mine - however will that hold if Landsbanki is declared insolvent. IIRC correctly their assets would then cease to be my property so all I'd have is a claim against the FCSC - which is something very different. In that situation would I qualify for CT benefit.

Less of an issue for me as for various reasons related to the work I do have I still might not be eligible but I was wondering if it might be of interest to others.

  • From what i heard on the news tonight they expect to settle these claims in a matter of weeks not months as usual,so i doubt that it would be possible to claim CT benefit, after all it would be no different really than having the money invested in a 60 day account
