DJI under 9000

Hell - the DJI fell through 9,000 tonight, only 4 days after crashing through 10,000 points.

Currently just above 8,900, loss of over 3.5%.

That's a consecutive loss of 17.6% over just 1 week.

ADDED: Wonder is that means we're heading fast towards a bottom like financials did on July 15th? Difference being, tomorrow we find out how many companies are settled with the $400 billion in losses from Lehman.

US nationalises banks over this weekend?

No one interested in discussing the stock market crash we just witnessed at the Dow Jones index plummeted nearly 700 points and 7%?

    That's what I said. :)

Surely not everyone here watches only the FTSE 100?

The DJI crash tonight doesn't bode well for tomorrow on the FTSE.

Stock markets aren't isolated, you see - they are all interconnected. - and the DJI is the big one they are all connected to.

I tried to start a thread about this and met with similar lack of interest. I put it down to people not realising what this - the DJI going below 9,000 - signifies. Oh, well, we are all about to find out.

Far from it they all understand but consider the S&P a far better index than the Dow.;)
  • I;m interested - 3000 down in a month - huge amounts of people's pension plans etc !!!!!! the DJI is key, all the stock markets are connected yes but there is lots of money in the DJI.

Talking of indices though - have you seen the VIX????? They call it the "index of fear" - closed at 63.2 - the first time ever above 60.
  • We are now moving into very dangerous waters. We could see nation turn against
nation. Recriminations, blame. Already members of the European union are acting unilaterally. Nationalism and self-interest will be the order of the day.
There are already theories suggesting the zionist in the banking world are responsible for the current crisis.
Who knows what dangers we face, or if governments can unite to bring us back
    from the abyss.

Yep the sp500 because the dow is weighted badly or so Ive read

Yes the fall happened after the ftse close so that means a lower open and probably further falls after that unless the asian markets have a different opinion maybe.

As its a friday and people wont want to go long over a weekend waiting for more bad news it could pretty terrible, hopefully america will open at lunch and stop it being too bad

US shorting is back & some sort of lehman debt news at 15:30 apparently
A gauge of 969 stocks on the SEC's no-short list lost almost 10 percent today. The group tumbled 25.8 percent since the ban was imposed on Sept. 19, compared with a 24.6 percent slide in the S&P 500.
Maybe it'll turn at 4k or the last bottom of 3.5k
