hi there. does anyone know if there is any way of getting around broadband providers who throttle ports, other than swapping providers?

Port Throttling info can be found here for those who don't know what it is:

I would have thought that they block these ports by simply blocking the common ones! If that's the case, just change the port your program connects from and you should be okay.0 -
i think they (talk talk) throttle all the ports, allowing enough bandwidth for browsing but not for filesharing/gaming etc. i'm pretty sure my program connects from different ports each time it opens, but still get the same problems. maybe there is no way around it. i haven't been able to find one so far. :wall:0

Well, I would change the port used to a COMMON one, such as the HTTP one (Port 80).
If they blocked this port off then no one would be able to access the internet. Try using that port on your PC!0 -
port throttling or traffic shaping is normally applied to p2p/usenet by isps. They shouldn't apply it to gaming. Changing the ports wouldn't do a lot of good in my view.
You can tweak torrents by encrypting the headers which may help.
I know some users are looking at tunnelling p2p through vpn which is an interesting move.0
