    i've got the horrible feeling that the missing files were deleted by an antivirus scan reading other forums

    Well you NEED those missing files! Best try another 'repair' using the system disc.

    the repair will not cure the infection , se need to try and remove that first

    may be the only real answer is to re-install vista from scratch , see what Reluctant finds

    Ive had a quick look into that and im inclined to agree. No one seems to know how it gets into the system, and once its there it forever pops up! Kaspersky removed it for one guy, but a week later it was back again.

    Thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like next time it happens will be time to re-install. Not looking forward to that.
