Icelandic PM:They dont like it up 'em !

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7662027.stm

A replay of the Cod Wars is predicted in the press tomorrow (9th Oct) after the Icelandic PM expressed his displeasure at the actions of Mr Brown and our knight in shining armour...dashing Darling in freezing assets under anti terror/security legislation.

Any suggestions for Daily Mirror/Sun/Daily Mail headlines ?

This is what we have the SAS for. Send the boys in Gordon and sort these fish-eating monkeys out once and for all.
  • The Icelandic PM has a nerve complaining, he is a disgrace who tried to nationalise and take British savers assets to prop up his economy and currency! Gordon Brown has said Iceland's behaviour regarding it's banks is "totally unacceptable". I agree with him!

  • Stuff the Icelandic PM and look after your own people Gordon - well done that man.

    Frick yeah!
About time we show the world what we're made of! Time to invade a defenseless country! That'll show the world we mean business!

But seriously.. I'm all for freezing assets. And I would find a war with them absolutely hilarious.
    This can only get better.

Edit: As for Sun headlines... How about "Icelands Haarde got any money left!"

    From Icelandic PM
He stated that the assets of Landsbanki can cover most of the Icesave deposits in Britain and talks with a team from Britain are scheduled this weekend to find a solution.
    ...
“But of course we will approach this in a way that claimants are not being discriminated against, regardless of their nationality, and those who are responsible for the operations of the banks now will have to sort it out,” the Prime Minister said.

Haarde assured that the Icelandic state treasury would honour all its debts. He also stated that the reputation of Iceland is first and foremost what the government wants to protect.

"Iceland does not intend to run away from its responsibility like many people in Britain seem to fear,” said Björgvin G. Sigurdsson, the Minister of Commerce in Iceland.

Sigurdsson stated that deposits will be prioritized in case of a receivership which means that account holders will be the first to receive benefits from Landsbanki. “What remains will naturally be a matter of agreement between these two great friendly nations.”

Hmm... "talks this weekend", to me that doesn't sound like there'll be anything concrete on how the compensation scheme is going to operate for a few days at least yet.

When Gordon Brown describes the behaviour of the US government as “totally unacceptable” and starts freezing US assets in the UK under anti-terrorist legislation, then he might get my respect. At present, we look like a much bigger country throwing our weight around. The UK and US governments have done such a great job in regulating their respective financial institutions. It wasn’t Icelandic toxic debt that seized up our banks.
