It would depend if it effects his ablity to work or if he needs help with caring for him (cooking, personal care such as toileting needs, washing himself etc) or help getting around if his walking/mobility is impaired. No benefits are based on a condition, just how it effects their daily lives.

This advice guide from Colitis and Chron's group NACC maybe be of some help http://www.nacc.org.uk/downloads/disability/AdultGuide.pdf

He will be able to get free prescriptions as it will be permanent, but needs to apply for the Medical Exemption Ceritificate & should be able to get the form from his GP / hospital.

I am awaiting a date for the same op. TBH, I am praying that the op will lead to me having a much easier healthier life, and very very few people would come under the category needing Incap. benefit or DLA as the op is very much designed to improve quality of life. I wish him a speedy recovery.

An ex-colleague of mine has one and she was entitled to DLA Mobility and a Radar Key for access to public toilets. I believe she would have had a Blue Badge had she applied for it.

  • Many thanks to you all for you help. He knows he is able to get the Radar key now, which will be helpful.
