i bought the medela mini from ebay, it was brand new but i would have bought a second hand one if there had been one for sale at the time. every bit of it can be sterilised. it was £42 from mothercare, i paid £30. it was loads better than the manual one. it comes with a bottle but it's a little thin one. i would tip the milk into an anti-colic bottle.

i only had a trickle of milk and it dried up by 6 weeks so mine is hardly used. i would offer it but my sister wants it.

I also used the Medela electric pump, didn't take long to get used to it, prior to that I'd used the Avent Isis. The Medela was very easy to use and it does make life a bit easier, it does feel a bit wierd at 1st but then don't most things associated with pregnancy/birth/children!

  • Quick and a good way to increase your milk supply but you do have to be careful with steralising them - personnally always found a hand pump adequate but depends on the qualtity lol you need to supply
  • my baby is now 5 months old and i have been expressing now 4 - 5 times a day with the medela electric pump ( the traveler one) I think its great and i wouldn't of kept my milk supply up without it.
I tried the mini electric plus which was great for occasional use but for daily use the traveler wins hands down. As this is my first I will be getting many more years use so feel the money is well spent

ok I think i will buy a pump and prob first hand so that it will last longer and i can use it with my future kids. I'm considering buying this one from boots.com

i know its not as cheap as the Medela, but with my 1500points/75pounds spend/parenting club, and an additional 1000points/voucher code from baby and you boots magazine, the actual cost is around 60pounds which is only 20 more than the medela.

whatcha think? anyone used this pump before?

ps does anyone find they leak from one breast when having an electric pump on the other one? how do you get around this - just hold a bottle under the other one?

edit: i would normally never considering forking out so much, but since it looks like im getting the sure start grant i figure why not??

  • I would not suggest getting a single breast pump, a double one will have the time you spend pumping. Give it a few weeks and your baby would of doubled the amount of milk its drinking

I would agree about the double pump especially if you are planning to use it a lot. For occasional use a single would be fine.

In regard to leaking from the oher side. I have always leaked a fair bit especially in the first few months however others I have spoken to haven't leaked at all. It seemsto vary from women to women. I used a breast cup that a just slipped into my bra to collect the milk. I sterilised it before use and wrapped with clingfilm. This way I could tip the collected milk into the bottle. Avent and Boots both sell breast cups.

i got my breast cups from boots. they're like drip trays lol! if you're wearing a nursing bra you can unclip one breast for using the machine and leave the other one covered so the drip tray stays inside your bra in the right place. they have a little lip for pouring, make sure it's at the top :-)

ive noticed i leak a little when feeding so i might have to buy some breast shells if i get the electric pump

also the double pump is 3 times more expensive than the single one!! tis cheaper to get two singles!!

iq_isis_swish.jpg this avent double pump is 350 pounds :ekk: :ekk: and boots dont stock it so i dont even get points!!

its so confusing, esp cause i suspect my baby likes the warmth and comfort of breast milk via nipple which will make weaning harder unless i wean her off the nipple onto bottled breast milk
