Nursery Chair

Has anyone got any recommendations for a nursery chair? Baby is due in 10 days and my wife would like a chair in the nursery for those late night feeds. Have looked at the expensive rocking nursing chairs but cant really afford £150+ for one of these. Has anyone used something different that is comfortable with good back support?

  • I bought an old rocking chair on Ebay and put a cushion on it, worked a treat, but make sure it's wide enough.

Lovely Avator, have you tried asking her Health Visitor or Midwife? They may know somewhere she can borrow/hire from.

I too wanted a chair to breast feed in and looked in mothercare. i think theirs is 400pounds!!! my god!! i've used that chair once in the breast feeding rooms of john lewis and it was nice but nice enough for 400pounds!!

i use the ikea chair that's super popular, it begins with P-something and comes in TONS of colours and fabrics. i bought that and the footstool (which i found i needed since baby rests on my leg when i feed) for 90pounds in a bargin corner but its normally around 120 or so depending on what fabric you get. i recommend this as its a godsend!

probably not relevent to you since baby is due so soon, but at my antenatal classes they say not to use this chair in pregnancy as it encourages a back to back baby. afterwards though it's fine and perfect for breast feeding.

I got a large leather chair from homebase. It is pretty much the same shape as the ones in Mothercare etc. It doesn't rock but does recline. It came complete with footstool. Can't remember exact price but it was under £100. It has been great. I cover it with a large blanket as it is cold to sit it during the night and just wash it when it gets dirty. The cheaper nursing type ones I have seen didn't have washable covers.

Argos also do one which we have as a nursing chair at work. This one does rock but I have to say I prefer my as I feel safer getting in and out of it.

Any chair that's comfy with arms will do - make sure it's nice and soft (add a cushion) and keep a throw on the back of it (gets chilly sitting there feeding in the middle of the night)

I had a rocking chair that was so uncomfortable I used it once...I ended up moving an arm chair into daughters room until she'd stopped feeding in the night.

I bought one but never used it. Baby was next to me in bed and really when it came to it, didnt see the point of getting out of bed to sit in a chair when I could just stay in bed and put him back in again afterwards. CHair ended up just being decoration.

I got given an old fashion rocking chair with arms but found that it wasn't wide enough so used an old reclining arm chair instead - perfect!

  • I bought my feeding chair from Ikea. It is the swedish design, the type that you can also buy in the freemans catalogues. It cost about £70 and is fab. When you are finished you can then use in the conservatory.
