£30 con

Options
Hi,

I went through the money saving expert website and from it's recommendation switched my energy supplier using moneysupermarket.com.
Now their telling me I didn't go through the money saving expert website and don't qualify for the £30 cash back!
Firstly that's the only reason I used them and secondly there is no text which says on this page http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/you-switch-gas-electricity, you must click the link to qualify!

Has anybody else had this problem?

I just noticed this on the page, talk about reading the small print, what a con this is!

Plus by specifically clicking to the comparison sites using the special links below, if they can switch you, you also get paid cashback or freebies on top that you wouldn't get if you went directly (for why read the full top comparison sites section).

Its clearly there for all too see, and many others have had cashback from the quidco, rpoints, moneysupermarket.

Dont worry, you can always switch again in a few months, and receive another cashback offer.

The cashback is offered as a referral from the site, the way it works is that say for example, MSE gets £40 per customer they refer to the energy provider. MSE will give you (not directly) £30.

Thats the way it works, no clicky linky, no person to pay a referral fee, so no cashback.

    Hope this helps..
  • Not really,

I went straight in from the newsletter as I needed to change quickly as I had just moved into a new house and needed to change quickly. I've fixed my bills till December 2009, so I won't be changing soon.

I did use the link, but I still don't think it states it clear enough on the page, I guess it doesn't really matter now anyway, but I'm saving on my energy bills anyway so that's the main thing. Although I could do without the patronising "no clicky linky".
  • I actually emailed moneysupermarket.com and advised them I had clicked the link via the newsletter and they have said they will pay me the £30.

Not exactly "a con" then is it?

As with all cashback schemes, you must read the samll-print very carefully to ensure you qualify. I got £17.50 back a few months ago by switching electricity supplier to a cheaper alternative thanks to this site's link and the comparison site it went through (I already knew which provider was cheapest before doing the actual "paid for" comparison switch).

This site is about saving money, not expecting it to arrive in your wallet for free without you doing anything. If you don't take the time to learn how to use offers for your best advantage, then you're not going to benefit from them anywhere near as much as you could.
  • I think your all missing the point.

I said I did click on the link via MSE news letter and moneysupermarket.com said I didn't qualify as I didn't click the link. I wasn't happy about this as this was the reason I used them and not USwitch or any of the others because I felt that offer worked better for me.

I advised them I wasn't happy about this and they have obviously realised they made an error and are now giving me the £30 cashback, so fair play to them for admitting it.

I don't expect money for nothing as I had looked at the other alternatives on the newsletter but this offer was better for me, and more importantly got a better deal for my utilities.
  • With offers like this it all comes down to tracking the links. It works the same for Quidco and other cash back websites.

I always make sure that I clear all cookies when using any form of cash back link. firstTimebuyer, it is possible that you clicked the link but if you had visited MS earlier on then your cookies would have remained on your system and this is what would have been tracked. To MS it would look like you haven't come via MSE therefore you technically are not entitled to the cashback.

Now that MS has paid your cash back because you have complained, maybe you should change the title of this thread because it is obviously not a con.

I already stated that moneysupermarket made an error and have resolved the situation which I am happy about, instead of leaving the post as is I made another post to notify everyone of the outcome in case the same happens to them, and also to give recognition to moneysupermarket for rectifying their error.

why do I have to change the heading of the post when I have already notified everyone and recognised moneysupermarket for their customer service?

end of story, what's the problem?
  • No problem, I know you cant change the title of the thread.

Just annoys me a little because someone on here hasn't got what they wanted its always a "con" when really there could have been a number of issues ie cookies.

You say MS made an error but it sounds like they have just offered you the £30 cash back as a gesture of goodwill. Oh well, seems like it pays to complain.
