Lloyds TSB A.K.A Thieves

Hi all,

Im getting rather stuck with Lloyds TSB. So i thought i would post on here to see if any of you had any options/opinions for me either from past experience or professional experience.

I have had this current accound for around 7 years and this is the third time iv had major problems with them.
Anyway, i have a loan with them for which i was paying for through the current account, but i bank with a different bank (halifax) as they are much and im currently trying to reclaim my bank charges with lloyds.

So in may my Lloyds account i had £100 credit there. also in this month i signed upto a debt management company (Debt Line) as they halved the time of my loan and im not paying interest. So with that i cancelled my loan drect debit as Lloyds would be getting their money through this company.

I stated to recieve letters in September saying my account was overdrawn and past the £250 limit, then there was a letter from collections saying i have to pay now. I went to my local Lloyds TSB branch to find out what has happened and the direct debit for my loan was not cancelled it was still active, so lloyds were getting paid twice each month for my loan (which they denied all kmowledge).

So yet again i cancelled the direct debit and wrote a letter of complaint to Lloyds collections explaining what has happened and now im waiting upto 8 weeks to get a response. I have had loads of phone calls from collections saying i need to pay now to which i refuse, i tell them there is a complaint in progress but they refuse to listen saying i need to prove it. so these conversations end up in arguments. But now i have managed to get the complaints people to put a hold on my account as i was getting letters saying that lloyds were sending "agents" round to collect my bank things and that they are taking me to court.

2 days ago i spoke to someone at complaints and they told me my account was in arrears thats why im overdrawn, but how can this be when i have statements showing i was in credit? Like i say this is the third time iv had problems with my money with lloyds which is their fault.

So im at a bit of a dead end now, i dont know what to do where to turn and how to get my money back as lloyds are now charging me £215pm because im overdrawn.

All your help would be greatly appreciated, and i do appologise for the bloomin HUGE post,

cheers all

  • You have had problems? They lent you money on the understanding you paid it back in monthly instalments.
The fact that you entered into a Debt management agreement does not mean that LTSB have to agree it.

You can cancel the D/D if you like but this does not get around the fact that you are not paying back what you are contracted to pay.

You say that you are also chasing Ltsb for charges - probably accrued through the bank's fault no doubt - sorry you get no sympathy here - I know this is your first post but I think you put the cart in front of the horse.

You should have had the bank's agreement first before cancelling the D/D.
  • Well i do appologise there mate, but as long as they get their money hey? and also a bank is not allowed to re-instate your d/d once you have cancelled it! so therefore they are in the wrong! if banks were to do this then they would put everyone into poverty!

personally i would prefer someone with constructive critcism to comment on this post. im getting the feeling that maybe you are a lloyds employee no doubt!

with reguards to the bank charges they date bank 6 years which i am entitled to! they were charging me money when i was going through a bad spell because of a change in my job! so yes it is the banks fault, have you not been keeping upto date with the whole bank charges case that went through court? have you read what the MONEY SAVING EXPERT wrote? i dont think you have have you.

so before you come at me with negative comments id appreciate it if you got yourself clued up with the bank charges thing. and only reply if you have something constructive to say about my situation!

    1. If you just want people to post saying they agree with you, then you've done the wrong thing. People can offer advice/opinions as they see fit.
There's no point telling people that they are right, they will win and the bank will be destroyed etc, unless there's a reasonable prospect of any sucess. Sometime it's better to be told, and have to face, the harsh reality.
I suspect a poster with thousand of posts has more idea of the useful purpose of this site than you currently have.

    2. have you actually confirmed that this debt company you've got involved with have actually made any contact / agreements / payments with L-TSB? If they haven't been paying it, and you've attempted to cancel the DD, what did you expect to happen?

As for this bit, well you've clearly shown by this that you don't understand the basis of the bank fee action. It's not the bank's fault you changed job or that you were having a bad spell.

Did you ask LTSB if you could pay by another means? Did they agree? If not they're quite within their rights to reinstate the DD, as that was what you agreed to when you signed the original agreement.

You need to make sure LTSB and Debt Line are talking to each other, and to you, and hopefully it will be sorted out.

If you speak to LTSB in the same way that you speak to the people on this board, I'm not really surprised that you haven't got the situation sorted out.

You have to listen and process information without making judgments and you need to speak to the bank when your circumstances change rather than expecting their computers to know what is going on.

You need to check your loan statements to see if they have indeed been paid twice each month as you say they have. That will give you some leverage with them.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • I've had a similar problem. I wrote to LTSB explaining that I couldnt keep up the payments and made them a lower monthly offer. I didnt get a reply. I wrote again......and didnt get a reply! I made the lower payment anyway, but they took the balance out of my account although I had cancelled the DD. Apparently, it is part of your terms and conditions of your loan with them that they can do this. But, after a couple of phone calls, I got the payment refunded into my account. I was very surprised, maybe lucky that I got someone on the phone who had a heart!
Different story with LTSB card services though. They keep taking the extra payments and refuse to give it back, even though I have now got a DMP in place with CCCS.

    Good luck
