Which room thermostat?

Probably a simple question to those that know. Can we install any room thermostat for our combi condenser boiler? It is a sime boiler. Also is it a fairly simple job, or for a professional - wiring is already there.
Thank you
Thank you

If the wiring is already there then its a simple swap over. Ask the boiler manufacturer if they recommend any thermostats, otherwise stick with one of the big manufacturers.0

Thank you adaze - so you are saying it would be ok to put any good quality thermostat that isn't necessarily a sime?0 -
Yup but it might be worth checking out the model you have and buying one with the same/similar wiring (althuogh I suspect most of them will be the same).0

Wireless thermostats are also much easy to fit, so personally I would recommend them.0

Thanks guys. Wireless isn't really an option because we have wires coming out of the wall. We had a new boiler put in by a friend who wired the landing up for thermostat but forgot to put a thermostat in. I keep asking him about it but he is really busy at the moment so thought i would just do it myself. I have finished decorating and just want it to look like nice again.
I was wondering about the wiring because the wire is the really thick sort so will need to make sure its compatable - I suppose if I took it out of the box in the shop and had a good look at the wiring system it would give me a good idea wouldn't it? Thanks again0 -
Hi Rosie, unfortunately things are not as simple as they might appear. The replacement stat needs to be compatible with the wiring/voltages used in your existing system.
Some issues to consider
Different voltages i,e some are 24/12/240v
Some are three wire, some are two
Some require a neutral and some are voltage free.
What make/model is currently fitted? I presume its faulty?
Do you still have the installation book for the boiler? If so it may have wiring suggestions. It may well use voltage free switching.0 -

Thanks Psst - I'm a bit out of my depth here. Will need to ask my plumber I think before I storm ahead. If i tell him i'm about to wire one up with a kitchen knife he may come over and finish the job for me:D. Will save my money until I know what i'm doing. Thanks guys.0
